Bring Older Grok References Home

Open References, choose one Grok account, and repair its remaining online-only references while Chrome is signed in to that same account. The repair keeps working in the background, can be paused or resumed, and clearly separates originals stored locally from links Grok no longer has and items worth retrying.

If your catalog spans several Grok accounts, repeat the repair account by account. GenCatalog waits for the right signed-in account instead of mixing your whole history into one ambiguous run.

Your References, Finally Browsable

References is now a real browser for the source imagery behind your work. Filter by service, account, local-copy state, or when a reference was first used. Sort by most or least used, newest or oldest first use, or most recent use.

Live family and generation counts make the shape of your creative library visible, while every reference clearly identifies whether its preview is safely local, still online, or missing.

Follow Every Branch

Reference details now show the exact local path and can reveal the original in Finder or Explorer. Open every generation derived from a reference, then return with the visible Back action or the Escape key—without resetting the rest of your library.

Choose the Video Frame for Recipe Cards

When you make a Recipe Card from a saved video, you can now pick the exact frame shown on the card before copying or exporting the PNG. The choice only affects the card you share, so your catalog thumbnail stays unchanged.

Multi-Select Keyboard Selection Restored

You can once again select one item in the grid, hold Shift, and use the arrow keys to extend the selection across the visible row or column. This also works when you start selection from a card checkbox, so batch actions feel predictable again.

Import Any Local Media

You can now bring downloaded images and videos into GenCatalog directly from your computer. Use the new Import button, drag files into the desktop app, or start from Settings. Imported files are copied into your library, exact duplicates are detected, and a review panel lets you clean up source, model, tags, prompts, and notes before moving on.

Undo Recent Imports

If you import the wrong batch, the import toast now includes Undo. GenCatalog removes the just-imported items and their copied files so a quick test or accidental drop does not clutter your catalog.

Cleaner Rediscover and Recipe Card Sharing

Rediscover now skips saved items that do not have prompts, keeping the experience focused on generations with useful context. Recipe Card PNG exports also use a privacy-safe default filename, so shared cards no longer expose the saved media filename.

Rediscover Looks Deeper

Rediscover now pulls from the full set of items that match your active filters instead of staying close to the current sort order. You can still narrow by images, videos, and platform, while Rediscover brings back more variety from across your library.

Faster Desktop Launches

Large libraries open more smoothly. GenCatalog now loads the first Library page quickly, keeps full prompts and metadata available when you open an item, and avoids extra startup work that could make the desktop app feel slower than the browser.

App Lock Is Opt-In

App Lock no longer turns on automatic launch or idle locking by default. If you use it, you can choose exactly when GenCatalog should lock, and you can turn App Lock off from Settings.

Gemini Support

GenCatalog can now save visible Gemini image generations into your local library with prompt context and the highest-resolution file Gemini makes available.

When Gemini exposes a full-size download, GenCatalog imports that file into your catalog and removes the temporary copy from Downloads, so you do not end up with duplicates.

Gemini support is intentionally chat-page focused, similar to GPT Image. For the most reliable archive, click the GenCatalog save badge at generation time so the image, prompt, and context are saved together while they are still visible.

Grok Capture Reliability Improvements

Grok Imagine launched a major wave of new updates and creation features this morning, and GenCatalog is ready for them. Save badges are more reliable on detail pages, crop/aspect-ratio outputs, and transient generation views.

GenCatalog now avoids placing save badges on Grok template/source cards, so saves stay focused on generated outputs instead of prompt templates or reference material.

Grok Projects and history/bulk scan metadata are preserved more consistently when that context is available.

Private Vault with Encryption at Rest

Private Vault is now available for generations you want to protect more strongly than the normal library, Hidden Items, App Lock, or Privacy Mode.

When you move an item into your Private Vault, GenCatalog encrypts its media file, thumbnail, prompt, and metadata on disk, then removes the normal plaintext library copies. While the Vault is locked, GenCatalog does not show the Vault contents, counts, names, thumbnails, or prompts.

"Encryption at rest" means the Vault data is stored in encrypted form while it is sitting on your drive. Someone browsing your catalog folder in Finder or File Explorer should not be able to read Vault media or metadata without unlocking the Vault in GenCatalog.

The boundary is important: App Lock keeps the GenCatalog window closed, Privacy Mode hides previews on screen, and Hidden Items keeps items out of the main grid. Private Vault is the feature for encrypted storage. Once you unlock the Vault, its items can be viewed and moved back to the normal library as regular unencrypted files.

Set up your Vault with a Vault password and save the recovery key. On supported Macs, you can also enable Touch ID for day-to-day Vault unlocks.

Capture Fixes for Grok, Venice, and Higgsfield

Grok bulk downloads now avoid treating one previously deleted child generation as a reason to skip other new children from the same parent, so newly created videos can still be found and saved.

Venice saves now refresh the catalog automatically and preserve visible model names such as Seedance when that information appears in the generation view.

Higgsfield saves are safer when you open a reference generation from another Higgsfield detail view, and Nano Banana Pro generations are labeled more consistently.

This release introduces the first wave of GenCatalog's new privacy features, with more protection options planned over the coming weeks and months.

You can now turn on App Lock to require Touch ID on supported Macs or an app password before opening GenCatalog, giving your local library a stronger layer of protection when someone else has access to your desktop.

Privacy Mode gives you a safer way to browse or screen-share your library by blurring sensitive previews and keeping videos muted while protection is on.

Hidden Items now use the same App Lock confirmation when App Lock is enabled, so private areas of the app share one clear unlock flow.

Better Higgsfield reference-image imports

Higgsfield imports with several reference images now treat each reference as a source image in GenCatalog, so the source-image browser and “more from this source” flow can find the whole family instead of only the first reference.

When you add your local or Tailscale GenCatalog page to the Home Screen, it can use the real GenCatalog app icon instead of a generic browser-generated tile. Existing Home Screen shortcuts may need to be removed and added again for iOS to refresh the icon.

Safer Grok duplicate cleanup

GenCatalog now handles duplicate Grok Imagine imports more carefully, including cases where two copies of the same generation arrive at nearly the same time.

Duplicate cleanup keeps one copy of the generation instead of accidentally removing every matching copy, and it no longer marks the surviving asset as previously deleted.

More reliable Grok imports

New Grok downloads are protected against rapid duplicate saves, so repeated or simultaneous requests resolve to the existing catalog item instead of creating another row.

Higgsfield source images and folders save more completely

Higgsfield detail saves now preserve attached reference images for Nano Banana Pro and other image-to-image generations, including a local source-image copy when GenCatalog can retrieve it.

Higgsfield folder names are kept as separate collection context instead of being flattened into one long name, and new collections appear without restarting GenCatalog.

Source images are easier to use later

Detail pages can now show the local source image used to create a generation. You can open that source item when it exists in your catalog or jump to the family of creations made from it.

Smoother filtering, zoom, and licensing

The All filter clears collection selections again, the Zoom Out shortcut works from the desktop menu, and the Chrome extension refreshes license status more promptly after you activate GenCatalog.

Finally: pinch to zoom in fullscreen

Open an image or video in fullscreen and pinch on your trackpad to zoom in for close inspection. Pan around while zoomed, double-click to jump in or reset, and move through your library without leaving the fullscreen viewer.

Better Higgsfield Favorites and private folders

Higgsfield saves now preserve more of the context that makes a generation useful later. Items saved from Higgsfield Favorites can appear as GenCatalog Favorites, and Higgsfield private folder names are carried into GenCatalog collection metadata.

Nano Banana Pro and other Higgsfield generations keep model, prompt, dimensions, creation date, and job details where Higgsfield provides them.

Choose the browser GenCatalog opens

Settings now includes an Open links in preference, so you can keep Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Firefox, or your system default as GenCatalog's browser for web links.

This is handy when your everyday browser is not the same browser you use for AI generation tools. Source links, download help, release notes, checkout, and other GenCatalog-opened web pages now follow the same preference.

Recipe Cards: share the recipe, not just the file

Every saved item now has a Recipe Card action in the detail panel. It creates a polished, GenCatalog-branded PNG with the artwork or video frame, source platform, full prompt, model details, dimensions, date, and available generation parameters.

Recipe Cards are built for sharing work in the wild: copy the PNG to your clipboard or export it to a file, with optional GenCatalog attribution and an opt-in creator/account line for privacy-sensitive workflows.

The renderer keeps the full media visible and the full prompt readable. Long prompts make taller cards instead of shrinking or hiding the recipe.

Search is now universal

The search box is no longer prompt-only. It now finds items by prompt text, tags, model labels, source platform, account or creator fields, filenames, and notes, so you can search the way you remember the generation.

Press Command-K on Mac or Ctrl-K on Windows to jump straight into search from anywhere in the catalog.

Cleaner first-run and library reliability

Empty catalogs now point new users toward the Chrome extension instead of implying an import flow that does not exist, and Settings shows whether the extension has connected recently.

Bulk upscaling has been removed from the extension because it can permanently change large groups of saved videos and sometimes produces lower-quality results than the original generation. Midjourney Scans Are Much Smarter About Duplicates

Midjourney can change filenames and CDN URLs behind the scenes, which made it too easy for the same image to look "new" again later. GenCatalog now keys Midjourney items to the stable job ID and image position instead, so scans are better at recognizing what you already saved — and what you intentionally deleted.

That means fewer repeat imports, cleaner scan results, and less time babysitting your library.

Save Badges That Stick Around

Grok and Midjourney both redraw parts of their pages as you browse, refresh, and jump between views. The extension is now better at keeping GenCatalog save badges attached through those changes instead of disappearing after the page quietly rebuilds itself.

Grok Scan & Download Fixed

The long-running Grok favorites scan bug is fixed. Hidden items are now properly recognized during scan, so Scan Favorites and Download New Items reflect what's actually actionable instead of phantom duplicates. Bulk download reporting has been cleaned up to distinguish real new saves from existing items, metadata updates, and excluded items.

Desktop app 5.14.3 ships with Chrome extension 5.14. Together they close the loop on the Grok favorites issue and make scan, sync, and download behavior line up with what's actually in your catalog.

A New Sidebar

The sidebar has been rebuilt from the top down. At the top, a hero block shows how many generations are in your catalog right now, how many you've added in the last 30 days, and a small sparkline of daily saves across that window. Below it, a source ratio bar breaks your library down by platform — Grok, Higgsfield, Midjourney, Digen — at a glance. Click any platform in the legend to toggle it on or off.

Filters are reorganized around how you actually use them. Type, source platform, sort, rating, and favorites sit up top. Everything else lives in a Refine further accordion that expands in place. Active filter counts show inline so you always know what's narrowing your grid.

Collections are now pinned at the bottom of the sidebar, always visible without scrolling.

Settings Screen

GenCatalog has a proper Settings screen for the first time. Open it from the gear icon in the sidebar or with ⌘,. Six tabs: General, Capture & Import, Library, Maintenance, License, and About. The maintenance tools previously scattered in the sidebar now have a proper home with descriptions, last-run timestamps, and a Run all option.

Source Images — A New Way to Slice Your Catalog

Every generation that started from a reference image — image-to-image, character refs, style refs, edits — is now a first-class thing in your catalog. Open Source Images under Refine further to find a Has source image toggle, a strip of your top five most-used source images with counts, and Show all sources for the full searchable list sorted by how many generations came from each.

On a typical catalog, this surfaces around 1,000 distinct source images across roughly 11,000 generations — a side of your work you couldn't see before.

Top Prompts

Find every variation you've made from the same prompt idea. Under Refine further, Top Prompts groups your generations by the opening of their prompt. Click a prompt to narrow the grid to every generation that used it. Sort by most used, most recent, or A→Z. Prompts are grouped by their first 80 characters, normalized — so all the variations you've made by tweaking the back half cluster together.

Better Source Image Thumbnails

Some source image tiles were rendering as empty squares — especially for Grok video-extension chains, where the captured reference was a video frame rather than an uploaded image. The app now falls back to the child generation's own frame when a source lacks one. The empty-tile count dropped from 21 to 2 on a typical catalog, and video-extension sources now display their parent video's first frame automatically.

Polish

A lot of small things got better. The old purple gradient accent has been replaced with a quieter slate throughout the app. Emoji icons have been swapped for a consistent inline icon set that reads clearly at every size. The macOS menu bar icon has been redrawn as a proper template icon that matches the app mark and sits naturally next to other tray icons. Extension popup has been retuned so icons and save badges don't look padded or double-tiled. Refine sidebar icons have been reworked to be more legible at small sizes. About screen copy has been rewritten in the app's current voice. Footer legibility has been improved — the compact meta chips in the sidebar footer now read cleanly at a glance.

Logo Navigation

Clicking the GenCatalog logo now exits the detail view and returns you to the main grid. Faster browsing, more natural "home" behavior.

Play Audio on Launch

A new setting lets you choose whether videos open with sound on or muted by default. The app now behaves the way you prefer every time.

Grok: Bad Model Labels Cleaned Up

Some Grok videos were showing a model label like overriden in the catalog. That raw upstream value is now filtered out on save, hidden in the UI, and can be cleaned retroactively from existing catalog entries as well.

Grok: Prompt Capture Fixes

Two Grok save issues have been fixed. Saving from the favorites grid no longer drops the prompt when a valid cached prompt already exists. And saving from Grok detail pages now pulls the real post prompt from page data instead of grabbing unrelated page text.

Grok Save Reliability

The Grok save badge now goes straight through the real save flow instead of failing early with a misleading "Start Grok Catalog Server first!" message while the local server is already running. If the local server is actually unavailable, GenCatalog now reports that clearly.

Menu Bar Icon Polish

The macOS menu bar icon has been rebuilt as a proper tray-specific template icon. It now matches the GenCatalog stack shape more closely and looks more native alongside other menu bar icons.
